The March 6, 2014 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha opened with a prayer, pledge and a song.
Guests included Mary Hill, Jeff McVey and Steven Koranda, a visiting Rotarian from Norman.
Prayer concerns include the Rod Carroll family. Rod, a well-liked paster and counselor was killed last week when he stopped out of his car to render aid to stranded motorist and was killed when he was struck by bus that slid when on the ice when the driver tried to avoid the scene.
President Greg Elliott reminded Rotarians that they can get matching points for every dollar they contribute to the Rotary Foundation during March. The club can match up to $8,000.
On March 10, Ron Burton Rotary International President from Norman, will be honored at 1:30 on March 10 by the Oklahoma State Senate. District Rotarians are asked to attend to show their support.
The deadline for the Dan Proctor Scholarship is March 15. Contact Dick McCalla if you know of a high school student who needs an application.
President Greg said the board has agreed to fund three RYLA camper this coming summer. RYLA is for High School juniors will be Seniors in the fall.
The program was the club-level Rotary 4-Way Test Speech Contest.
Chairman Cody White said the winner will get $300 from the club had have a video of his speech forward to be judged in the District Contest. Second place will get $200.
Judges were Judy Duprez, an English teacher and wife of Rotarian Conrad Duprez, and Liz Taylor, Grady County Extension Educator for 4-H Youth Development.
 Two contestants gave speeches of four to seven minutes each based on the topic "How do Rotarians engage the 4-Way Test to Change lives." Each of the young students did an excellent job. After a brief deliberation, the judges chose Stalder Talley, son of Randy and Kathy Talley of Chickasha as the winner.   
Second place went to Julie Houser of Ninnekah.
A job well done, kids.
The meeting adjourned after recitation of the 4-Way Test.
