Scouting volunteer and surgeon Hal Yokum in the persona of Gen. Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of scouting.
Guest speaker for the 2-10-2011 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha meeting was Dr. Hal Yokum, a.k.a. Gen. Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of scouting more than a hundred years ago. Yokum, who attained the rank of Eagle Scout and has received some of scouting's highest honors, is an Oklahoma surgeon. He does a spot-on impersonation - complete with uniform, regalia and British accent of Gen. Baden-Powell as he explains how scouting came to be. Baden-Powell formally launched the Scouting movement in 1908 with the publication of Scouting for Boys a manual he adapted from his own British Calvary manual. In 1911, Baden-Powell helped get scouting started in the U.S. in 1911. He also helped establish the girl scouts and cub scouts. Prayer concerns include Dr. David Hall Sr., who remains in ICU at Baptist but is showing signs of improvement, and Steve LaForge, who has completed treatment as is waiting for lingering side effects to subside. The meeting adjourned after recitation of the 4-Way Test.
