The Oct. 24, 2013 meeting of the Rotary Club of Chickasha opened with a prayer, pledge and song.
Guests included Paul Lewis and Ryan O'Kelley, new District Boy Scout executive.
Prayer concerns include club member Jim Glaze, who currently awaiting a stem cell transplant as treatment for his leukemia and Don Pittman, father of Rotarian Jerry Pittman.
President Greg Elliott reminded Rotarians about selling tickets for the John Deere Gator giveaway. You can get extra tickets. Every Rotarian must sell a minimum of five $20 tickets. The gator will be on display at several community events in the coming weeks and you sign up to man the table and sell your tickets.
A second reading was given on prospective member Derrick Allen, whose sponsor is Tom Rose.
Guest speakers were District 5770 Past Gov. Russ Davoren and OU Public Relations and Marketing Prof. Owen Kulemeka who were part of Rotary Group Study Exchange to Italy last spring.
Davoren was the group team leader and Kulemeka was one of four college educators from around the state to make the trip to visit eight cities with universities in two regions of Italy. Cities visited included Arezzo, Pisa, Siena and Florence in the Tuscany Region and Bologna, Ferrara, Parma and Ravenna in the Emilia Romagna region.
The groups toured many vocational and cultural sites in the regions. It was one of the last GSE trips which are being replaced by Vocational Training Teams, whose mission will be to share skills to help others.
Among Kulemeka's stops in Italy were to a design firm, an ad agency and a television station.
Davoren visited the equivalent of U.S. FAA facilities while in Italy.
The group saw many of the numerous cultural attractions in the country, as well.
Kulemeka said the trip was a "life transforming experience."
Davoren said at the end of the trip Italian Rotarians surprised the group with a $5,000 check to help with tornado relief in Oklahoma. The Moore tornado struck while the Oklahomans were in Italy.
The meeting adjourned after recitation of the Rotary 4-Way Test.
