New Rotarian Ron Shearer also provided a snap shot into his background in his Classification Talk.
Ron is a retired Millwright, having worked in the trade in a number of locations throughout northern BC. He started the trade working for Alcan in Kitimat, where he discovered that it rained allot.
Ron worked for Endako Mines near Fraser Lake for many years, as well as Polar Forest Products at Bear Lake, and a mining company in Stewart, BC, where Ron also learned that it snowed allot. In fact Ron said it was an incredible amount of snow.
Ron finished his career as a Millwright working in the sawmill at Houston, BC.
After retirement, Ron became an independent entrepreneur with the purchase of a Fishing Lodge on Bonaparte Lake in the Caribou. Ron indicated this was a fun opportunity during the winter, but they would have to close everything down in winter and move to Kamloops because access was not available unless winter logging was taking place in the areas around Bonaparte Lake.
Ron sold the lodge to some Swiss people that closed the lodge down and continue to use it for their own private resort.
Ron has been active as a volunteer in Prince George, with the BC Seniors Games, as well as assisting regularly with our Operation Red Nose Program.
Ron is keen to get involved in more of our Rotary Programs and will be an active participant in Fund Raising projects including our Garage Sale and Car Raffle programs.
Ron likes to spend his idle time on his ATV during the summer months.
