Classification Talk

One of our new Rotarians, Jim Swanson, gave the Nechako Rotary Club an opportunity to get to know him a little better this morning through his Classification Talk.

Jim was born in Quesnel, BC and moved around the province as a an amateur hockey player during his earlier years, finally returning to Quesnel and finally Prince George.

Jim worked for 14 years as Sports Editor for the Prince George Citizen prior to his move to working for Telus as Telephone Service Manager, where he has been for the last year.

Jim is well known in the community for his role as Chair of the World Baseball Challenge, having successfully completed this role during both the 2009 and 2011 years here in Prince George.  Jim and his family love the game of baseball and could spend hours talking about the sport and the fun they have had being involved in the World Baseball Challenge program.

Jim mentioned to the Club that the World Baseball Challenge has been a great revenue producer for the city of Prince George despite the fact that many of the games in 2011 were either postponed or rained out.  The WBC has brought approximately 5 million dollars to the city during the two years.

Jim is married to Lori-Ann for 20 years and they have two children, both of whom have become known in the City from their role as performance singers at sports events.

Jim indicated he chose membership with the Nechako Club because of the activities and programs the Nechako Club do, making it the club of choice for him and his family.
