Doctor Jeff Payne provided the Nechako Rotary Club with a very interesting and informative update on the UBC Medical Program that has been active in Prince George since 2004.

Prince George's Medical Program through UNBC enrolls 32 students per year into what is typically known as the students 3rd year of their program.

The combined efforts through UBC, University of Victoria and UNBC, with a fourth soon to activated in the Okanagan, makes this Medical School Program one of the largest in North America.

The Program enrolls a total of 288 students per year through these four Universities, from an application level of over 1000 in the Province.

Students are required to complete the 4 year program plus a minimum of an additional 2 years for family medicine or an additional 5 years for other specialties.

The program is constantly looking a ways and means of encouraging local applicants to study Medicine in the Province and to return to some of their rural locations to practice following their Internship.

Doctor Payne was thanked by Rotarian Gordon Smith with a Donation to our Polio Plus Program
