Fiona Taylor, Deputy Project Officer for BC Hydro was the speaker for the Nechako Rotary Club on September 21st.

Fiona provided a number of slides and back ground information on the benefits of the "Smart Metering Program".

Hydro has been faced with many challenges during the years with theft of electricity in addition to the problems associated with "Power Outs" and related issues.

The "Smart Meter" will assist Hydro in many ways in managing their delivery of power to customers, including the tracking of electricity consumption, policing of electricity theft, and reduction of maintenance costs.

Smart Meters assist with the detection of expensive equipment failures that will assist Hydro in taking preventive measures rather than the high cost of repairs when the system and equipment fails.

The Smart Meter is capable of reporting on these kind of operational activities through computer technology, saving BC Hydro millions of dollars in operational costs as well as vastly improved performance to their customers.

Smart Meters are being installed and will be coming to your home or work place soon.

Rotarian Lloyd Clay thanked Fiona for her presentation with another donation to our Polio Plus Program.
