Teach a Mother, Change the World
The Nechako Rotary Club received a presentation this morning from Mr. G.E.M. Munro on the topic of "Teach a Mother, Change the World".
G.E.M. Munro and his wife Dr. Tanyss Munro are founders and Co-Directors of the "Amarok Society"
The Amarok Society was created to assist with the teaching and educational opportunities for people living in depressed and poor locations of the world.
The Munro's started their teaching with First Nations in Canada prior to choosing to try to make a difference in the slums of Bangladesh.
Amarok has created a total of 14 schools in Bangladesh focused on teaching women living in the very unfortunate slums of this country. These women are taught to read and write in their native language as well as English. These women are then tasked with the opportunity to teach their new skills to 5 children around them. Thus the opportunity to grow the program.
The program in Bangladesh appears to be highly successful. For more information about Amarok Society and their work, please visit their website at: www.amaroksociety.org
Rotarian Ron Shearer thanked Mr. Munro with another donation to our Rotary Polio Plus Program.
