Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services

Rotarian Captain Neil Wilkinson of the Salvation Army in Prince George and four of the Prince George Volunteers with the Emergency Disaster Services team in Prince George, provided some background on the type of activities that the Salvation Army provides in Northern BC.
The Prince George Division covers the area from about Williams Lake north to the BC/Yukon Border. West to almost Smithers and east to the Alberta border.
A huge area in which the Salvation Army provides assistance in many ways including the provision for mobile feeding, shelter, spiritual ministry along with the distribution of necessary supplies. The Salvation Army are one of the first Response Units to arrive at a disaster site and generally the last to leave.
The Salvation Army has a mobile response Unit, which Captain Neil Wilkinson and his team of Volunteers showed to Rotarians this morning.
This unit is very good but lacks the necessary capacity to haul additional supplies as well as the accommodation and washroom facilities required for the Response Team.
For this reason, the Nechako Rotary Club have pledged to help purchase an additional Response Unit with the proceeds of our 2012 Rotary Car Raffle.
Salvation Army Response locations are located in 10 other localities around the province, including one in Terrace to help service northern BC.
The Salvation Army will be hosting a series of training programs, commencing on May 4,5 and 6 of 2012 in Prince George, to assist people that would like to sign up to be volunteers for the Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services team.
Captain Neil Wilkinson welcomes Rotarians to get involved in this very responsible and rewarding service.
In addition to helping people in our communities, the program provides lots of fellowship similar to that of Rotary.
