Salvation Army

The Salvation Army is very busy in Prince George providing outreach services and assistance to people "living on the edge". Barbara Croome indicated the Salvation Army has seen an increase in their services by 38% due to changes in the economy and loss of jobs. A full 40% of the people seeking assistance from the Salvation Army are youths. Barbara indicated that much of the increase has been the result of the Salvation Army moving from the downtown core area to their current location on Ospika, where it seems more people feel less intimidated seeking help. The Salvation Army is hosting their "Save On Food Drive" on October 10th, with a need for 8 volunteers at each of the four store locations to hand out donation bags to shoppers and collect the donations. A total of 32 volunteers is required. This program traditionally raises donations of approximately 20 to 22 thousand dollars worth of groceries to be donated through the Salvation Army. Barbara was thanked by Rotarian Harold Spensley with a donation to our Shelter Box Canada Program.
