REAPS

Recycling and Environmental Action Planning Society (REAPS) is a Prince George based group of people concerned about our community and country.

Terri McClymont is the local leader of REAPS in Prince George.  Terri provided a very interesting presentation and examples of recycling, and composting that are helpful in reducing the amount of solid waste being disposed of in Prince George.

Recycling and composting are very beneficial without a lot of work and inconvenience to people.

REAPS has put in considerable effort trying to coordinate and centralize recycling to assist the public in reducing their solid waste while helping to protect our environment.

The two big problems remain in both plastic products and Styrofoam used for packaging.

Plastic products need to be seriously cleaned of their contents prior to being left for recycling.  Most people do not think of this aspect and materials such as food waste become very rancid and strong smelling, making the recycling of plastic very difficult. 

Therefore, Prince George doesn't currently have a venue for plastic products recycling.

Terri handed out a long list of recyclable materials and venues for delivery, as well as a very good document on Composting.

Past President Kelly Zammit thanked Terri for her presentation with another donation to our Rotary Polio Plus Program.
