Radon Gas

Amanada Chmelyk is a 4th year nursing student at UNBC, here in Prince George, working for the Canadian Cancer Society as a Community Nursing Practicum.

Amanda's role in the Society is to help raise the awareness of "Radon Gas" in our community.

Many people never hear of things like "Radon Gas".  It is a naturally occurring, odorless, colorless cancer causing gas that can build up in our homes.

In fact, Radon Gas is the second leading cause of lung cancer, after smoking.  Further, Radon Gas increases significantly, the chances of a smoker becoming exposed to cancer.

The Canadian Cancer Society and Northern Health are encouraging all people in Prince George to have their homes checked for the possible presence of higher levels of Radon Gas, and if this gas is measured in the home, to take preventative measures to reduce the levels of Radon Gas in the home.

The testing for Radon Gas is easy and inexpensive.  If gas levels are detected, the means of reducing these levels is also relatively inexpensive with qualified contractors.
