Prince George Public Library Knowledge Garden

Allan Wilson, Chief Librarian for the Prince George Public Library provided an update to the Nechako Rotary Club of the current activities involving the Library.

The Library has been actively involved in the completion of the "Sky Lab" project for the library.  This project is now completed.  In addition to the Sky Lab, the Library and their Board of Directors have been busy planning to ensure that the Public Library remains an integral part of the services provided to the people of Prince George and surrounding area.

Allen provided some information regarding their priorities, and the next major project for the Library is the "Knowledge Garden" which will have their "Shovel Ceremony" this spring.

The "Knowledge Garden" has a complete budget of $178 thousand dollars.  The Library has currently raised an initial $75 thousand dollars with an additional $15 thousand currently pledged to the project.  An additional $91 thousand dollars is required through donations to complete the project.

Allen has approached the three Rotary Clubs in Prince George to seek assistance in raising this final $91 thousand dollar commitment as a Tri-Club project.

With this amount of money, Rotary in Prince George has the opportunity to have "Naming Rights" for the "Knowledge Garden".  This would entitle Rotary to take a high profile in our community in recognition of the funding to the Garden.

The Public Library is also active in a number of other ways including improvements to the entrance/access to the library and some internal facilities upgrades.

The Library will also be part of the 2015 Winter Games, where it will become part of the "Games Village" during the 2 weeks the games are being hosted in Prince George.  The Library will be closed to normal public access during this short period of time.
