Prince George PARTY Program

Wynne Widdis, a Nurse at the University Hospital of Northern BC presented some background information and handouts on the PG PARTY Program. PARTY is the acronym for "Prevent Alcohol and Risk Related Trauma in Youth" in our community. During the 1990's physicians and nurses in PG were becoming seriously concerned about the number of youth with traumatic injures related to alcohol. In 2002 the Prince George Safe Attitudes and Actions Society was formed and has, as its sole mission to promote injury prevention through reality education. In 1997, the P.A.R.T.Y. program was implemented. The program is run through about 30 volunteers whom contribute their time to ensure PARTY runs effectively. Volunteers come from the RCMP, School District 57, University Hospital of Northern BC, BC Ambulance Service, The Brain Injury Group of PG and local physicians in Prince George. Wynne was thanked for her presentation by Rotarian Sam Kirsch with a donation to our Shelter Box Canada Program. The Club also presented a cheque for the PARTY Program for $1,000.00 dollars to Wynne.
