Northern Cancer Control Strategy

Pam Tobin, Project Lead, Clinical Programs, for the Northern Cancer Control Strategy presented information and slides regarding this initiative in Prince George and Northern BC. The Northern Cancer Control Strategy is a joint partnership of the BC Cancer Agency, Northern Health and the Provincial Health Services Authority. This project is designed to assist people located in the northern region of BC, with a total of 15 programs, in 10 community clinics across the north. The two latest clinics being located in Vanderhoof and Queen Charlotte Islands. These clinics provide local assistance to people, including such things as "Telemedicine" and "Recruitment." The new "Centre for the North" Cancer Clinic is under construction, with a completion date scheduled for Sept. 2012. This Centre for the North will be augmented with the planned Cancer Lodge that is planned to be constructed at Alward Place Park. The expectation is that this clinic will service between 35 and 40 cancer patients a day and the numbers will surely increase over time.
