Kordyban Lodge Update

Canadian Cancer Society Campaign Manager Les Waldie provided the Nechako Club membership with a timely update on work progress for the construction of the new Cancer Lodge.

Work is proceeding on time and within budget with most of the foundation completed and some of the exterior walls being raised.  Les indicated the project received a bit of a surprise during the excavation for the foundation when it came in contact with an old buried "WW11 Bunker".  Fortunately, the bunker was empty and the project was not delayed beyond the fact they had to break up the heavy concrete bunker to enable the construction of the building foundation.

Les also informed members that the funding is being backed by the Canadian Cancer Society and that the local Campaign Committee has exceeded their goal in pledges of the $10 million dollars.  This a remarkable example of how much the people and companies in the North are supporting this worthy project.

The Kordyban Lodge will display lots of wood and wood products in the construction and is receiving regular input through cooperation with the other two Cancer Lodges in BC, one in Vancouver, the "Ike Barber Cancer Lodge" and the lodge in Kelowna.

When constructed, the Canadian Cancer Society will assume office space in the building rather than their current location downtown on the 3rd floor of the Barton Insurance building.
