Historic Downtown Prince George

Diandra Norburn is a UBC Student employed for the summer to host the City of Prince George's Historic Downtown Prince George program as part of their Read - Learn Discover Program.
Diandra did a lot of reading and research through the Prince George Archives to gather her wealth of information to host the summer "Historic Downtown Prince George" walking tours.
Prince George was Incorporated in 1913 and has a huge history in the older building around the City.
Prince George has always been a bit of a "Pioneering City" with it's initial Central Fort George image as a non drinking or gambling City, only a short distance from South Fort George, which was known for it's free spirit of both gambling and alcohol consumption.
Diandra did an excellent job of walking the Nechako Rotary Club members through a series of slides of the Downtown core of Prince George, with pictures of many of the buildings and development that occurred in the early years. Many of these building have now been replaced with new structures, but some still stand today as part of our History.
Many of our Prince George residents still remember some of these building and the activities that were experienced during those earlier years.
Everyone learned a lot about Prince George that we did not know, and possibly some we were trying to forget?
Diandra was thanked for her presentation by PDG Ron Neukomm, with another donation to our Polio Plus Program.
Ron is one of the people in our Club that has been born and raised in Prince George, and remembers much of this history well.
