Have a Heart for Haiti
Posted by Kenneth Pendergast
Todays presentation "Have a Heart for Haiti" by Rotarian and Shelter Box Ambassador Gary Gurnsey, provided an update to our Club regarding the progress made in Prince George to solicit funds to provide assistance to Haiti.
Shelter Box has pledged 10,000 units to be shipped to Haiti. Canadians are responding to the Earthquake Disaster in Haiti in traditional Canadian style with donations in excess of $45 million dollars.
In Prince George, Shelter Box has raised over $50,000.00 to date. A Shelter Box is located in the Pine Centre Mall until Feb. 14th, with Rotarians and volunteers staffing the display in two hour shifts.
This morning following Gary's presentation, the Hat was passed throughout the membership with donations amounting to $1255.00 raised. Tax receipts will be provided from Shelter Box for these donations.
Anyone not attending the meeting this morning that would like to make a donation, please contact Gary Gurnsey or Ken Pendergast directly.
The Nechako Club will entertain a vote to during Monday evening Director's Meeting to match the donation's of the individual members. These donations are being matched, dollar for dollar, by our Federal Government. This would represent another 5 Shelter Boxes going to Haiti.
Thank you Gary and all the fellow Rotarians that made a contribution to Shelter Box.
