Andrew Poon, Media Relations & Government Affairs Communications & Education representative, provided some background and statistical information on the Role that British Columbia Securities Commission plays in the province to help the public deal with "Scams". Their "InvestRight" Program identifies that a full 38% of our public are approached by efforts to fraudulent investments. 4% of people in Canada are actual victims of Fraud. Minority groups and people with lower education are more susceptible to Fraud. Many Seniors are seriously victimized by Fraud and loose much of their limited finances to Fraud. Fortunately, 71% of Canadians research their investments carefully before making financial commitments. Many of the Fraudulent acts are through connections such as; "Cold Calls"; "Friends & Family"; "Internet Promotions"; "Investment Ads"; and "Investment Seminars". BC Securities Commission is an organization that is available to assist people in selecting the right investment agencies to reduce the risk of Fraud.
