BC Elders Gathering

The 37th Annual BC Elders Gathering is being hosted in Prince George from July 8th to 11th, 2013 at the CN Centre.

This years gathering is titled " Honor Your Journey."

Rena Zatorski, Project Manager, is with Red Earth Management.  Rena provided some background information of this years BC Elders Gathering.

The Gathering will bring over 2200 First Nations Elders from the 206 Native Bands throughout BC.  Rena indicated that already they have registrations from 103 of those bands.  Accommodations are booked in all the Hotels and Motels in Prince George, with some accommodations also being taken in Quesnel and Vanderhoof.

The number of Elders in BC is expanding, similar to all cultures in BC and the Gathering may need to rethink the age requirements sometime in the future.  Elders are honored as "Knowledge Keepers" and have been very helpful in passing on this knowledge and traditions over the centuries to the younger generations within the bands.

This year the BC Elders Gathering is open to the public, but registration is still a requirement, and the cost is $50.00 per person, which includes lunch and parking at the CN Centre.
