Anthony Everett, Chair of the 2015 Canada Winter Games Committee in Prince George, was the guest speaker at the Nechako Rotary Club meeting on June 5th.

Like most people involved in these events, Anthony is a volunteer, and works at the Northern Tourism Association when not involved in the preparations for the 2015 Canada Winter Games to be hosted in Prince George.

The Canada Winter Games have been happening a total of 23 times, every two years, since 1967.  The games alternate from Summer Games and Winter Games.  This is the largest Multi Sport Events in Canada.

Prince George will host the 24th series of games in 2015, during the 100th Anniversary of our city.

The Games Motto is:  "Inspiring Dreams & Building Champions"  We will see much of this during the games starting in February, with a total of 19 sport activities over 18 days.

A total of 2400 athletes will participate between the ages of 12 and 35 years.

The games will require thousands of volunteers, and we all know that these type of events could not and would not happen without these volunteers.

Volunteers will receive coaching and some training in the specifics of the areas of expertise required, depending on the nature of the work.

As always, Prince George is rising to the challenge, from the bid committee exercise to the commencement of the games, and we can be assured that the 2015 Games will be another success story in our City, regardless of the tasks and uncertainty that lays ahead, including the weather, which includes temperature and snow conditions.

Anthony was thanked by Rotarian President Elect Brian Pearson, with another donation to our Rotary Polio Plus Program.
