April 2019 - Grants Approved Total $12,090

  1. The Journey Ahead $1,000: To partially fund the cost of the professional speaker and facilitators for the 2019 Journey Ahead program that targets 8th grade boys in Routt County and surrounding areas. The program assists adolescent boys in setting goals, making thoughtful choices, expanding their thinking, and inspiring them to make a commitment excellence.

  2. Steamboat Springs Youth Hockey Association $1,590: To purchase three new ice gear sets to replace old and broken equipment  and supports the Growth and Development Initiative that offers the opportunity for kids to try hockey for free or low cost.  SSYHA philosophy of development not only involves the athletic skills necessary for the game of hockey but building upon the life lessons gained through teamwork, facing adversity, work ethic, sportsmanship, goal setting, a healthy lifestyle, etc.

  3. Steamboat Creates $2,000: To help cover the expansion cost of Steamboat Create’s Young at Art Creativity Camps for the 21 days in 2019 that the Steamboat Springs School Districts will be closed for students. The goal is to offer school days off creativity classes at low to no-cost to serve those families looking for a high quality, low class size, multidisciplinary create approach at an affordable price.

  4. Yampatika $2,000: To fund a custom-built Art Storage Cabinet at Legacy Ranch that will hold most of Yampatika’s summer camp and after-school program supplies in an efficient, effective accessible format. The Legacy Ranch is an important location for Yampatika and serves over 130 youth for summer day camps, 340 people for their fall festival, and more than 20 classes and afterschool programs receive programming from Yampatika from Legacy Ranch.

  5. The Routt County Foundation for Senior Citizens $2,000: Assist with a capital improvement project to replace the common area lighting with LED lighting in the hallways at the Mountain View Manor and Aspen View Manor apartment buildings.

  6. Advocates of Routt County $2,000: Help pay for Advocates social change work in schools. Funding will be used to fund additional staff time to do school presentations, develop and print posters to put in school bathrooms, as well as work with the schools on other innovative initiatives to implement in the upcoming school years.  This project is part of Advocates new Social Change Advocacy to stop domestic and sexual violence before it happens.

  7. Sk8 Church $1,000: To assist in the expansion of Sk8 Church services and programs to Friday and Saturday evenings as weekend nights are common times for youth to engage in risky behaviors such as drinking and drug use.

  8. Girls to Women $500: The mission of Girls to Women is to improve the self-sufficiency of girls and women in Northwest Colorado through programs that address education, current issues, goal-setting, work/life opportunities, financial literacy, mentoring and self-esteem. These grant funds will be used to help put on their signature program, 2019 Girls to Women Conference, designed for 8th grade girls from North and South Routt County, Steamboat Springs, Hayden, and Rangley.
