Our meeting was called to order at 12:11pm and following the Pledge and the Four-way test, Stacie Fain provided the Thought for the Day.  She relayed a story with a message of taking pride in all that you do, no matter how menial the task, whether it be your job, home or volunteer life, thank you Stacie.  Tony Counts was our greeter, assisted by Chris Stillwell, and we welcomed two visiting Rotarians and a number of visitors, including several family members of our Rotarians.  A sign-up sheet for greeters was circulated around the room during the meeting and if you missed out, please contact Chris Stillwell and get your name in.

Steve Sehnert introduced our program, Rob Perlman, otherwise known as Amanda’s father.  Rob provided us with a brief background which began as a snow reporter at Mammoth following college.  His career in the ski industry was divided between Colorado and Mammoth until his move to Steamboat Springs ten years ago.

Rob described the unique ownership that came together to form Alterra Mountain Company, the 13 resorts, soon to be 14, owned by the company and the collaboration with 13 additional resorts to provide the ICON pass. He passed along the “new” focus of this company being on the employees, number one and secondly, on guest services. Rob provided updates on capital improvements being made, primarily the renovation of Bear River Bar & Grill this summer, the addition of the Taco Beast, the snow cat that is a huge hit and the upgrading of on mountain trail signage.  Additional improvements will be made at the base in the future.

The air tax will be on the ballot this fall with a .2% increase in sales tax.  The previous air tax of .25% ended in 2016 and the reserves have carried us through the past few years.  Rob provided a very brief overview on contributions made to sustaining the air travel service from the ski area, the LMD and the sales tax, with the sales tax providing an estimated 15% of the overall cost.  For more details contact Rob.

Following the program, Susie announced that the Barn Dance committee was hard at work and will welcome any new committee members that would like to help out and always sponsors.

Steve Hitchcock presented a Jack Black Fellow award to George, a visiting Rotarian and past District Governor, for his contribution of $1,000 to our local foundation.  George attends our meetings regularly with his wife when he is in town and thinks highly of our club.

Following Good News, the meeting was adjourned at 1:24.

Next week, Karen Schneider and Julie Taulman will present on the Rotary Exchange Program.

Respectfully your,

Carol Johnson
