WELCOME OUR NEW MEMBERDawn Lazarus, a financial advisor from Merrill Lynch, was inducted as our newest member.  Thank you to Sue Chatfield, Assistant District Governor for sponsoring Dawn. According to Immediate Past-President Jenn Diederich, the addition of Dawn brings our membership to 41 with a ratio of 42% female and 58% male. What a wonderful, growing and diverse club we have! The club has proudly inducted 7 new members this year!

ATTENDANCE – There were 16 Farmington Rotarians in attendance.

RAFFLE – Although Jenn left the luncheon before the raffle, she had the winning ticket, but pulled the five of spades from the deck of playing cards for her instead of the ace of spades and therefore she lost the pot.

HAPPY BUCKS – Donations were made in honor of the Fall Harvest Food Drive supporting the Farmington Food Bank; veterans; all our new members; Glenn Scholl’s vacations in Hawaii and Australia; and Stu Horen’s daughter successfully hiking up Mount Kilimanjaro.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
  • Our first ‘Fall Harvest Food Drive’ will be this Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Unionville Stop & Shop. We will be collecting food for the Farmington Food Pantry. President Elizabeth Sheridan said we are still looking for more volunteers.

  • There will be no regular, weekly luncheon next week, Oct. 29. Instead, there will be a monthly social 5:30 – 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 30th, at the Tunxis Plantation Golf Course Tavern. Appetizers will be served, according to Dave Barrett, who with his wife, Robin, organize the socials. For those who want to drink, they can get two drinks (wine and/or beer) for $16. For those who don’t want to drink, the price will be $11.

  • The annual Veteran’s Day lunch will be Tuesday, Nov. 12, at Farmington Gardens. Again, let Dave Barrett know if you plan to attend so he can give a headcount to Phil Chabot. Dave said that members can bring photos of loved ones who are veterans to display. The photo should be of the veteran in uniform. Sponsors of the lunch are Dave and Robin Barrett; Bill and Bette Case; and Jody and Stephen Viola. Jody and Stephen’s sponsorship is in honor of Joe Gustin, Jody’s Dad who recently passed away.

  • The Stanley-Whitman House will host a walk/tour through the Momento Mori Cemetery this Sunday, Oct. 26. Call Andy Verzosa, Executive Director of the Stanley-Whitman House and a member of the Farmington Rotary, for details.

  • It’s Polio Plus time! Members are asked to each donate at least $33 to the Rotary International Polio Plus campaign aimed at eradicating polio worldwide.

  • Mike Cheshire thanked Phil Chabot, who volunteered his time and gave a positive presentation to the Farmington Alternative High School students on how to secure their first jobs.

  • Applications are being sought for the Rotary Youth Leadership Academy (RYLA), a one-day leadership conference for high school sophomores that is conducted each spring in Springfield, Mass. Area students who attend Farmington High School, Miss Porter’s School and St. Paul’s Catholic High School can apply through Farmington Rotary.

  • The club’s focus will now shift to our next large fundraiser…’Farmington Rotary’s Annual Dine n’ Dance’, to be held at Farmington Gardens on February 8, 2020.  Please contact co-chairs Jody Viola or Brian FX Connolly if you are interested in helping on the committee.
