About H.E. Mrs. Teuta Sahatqija

Ambassador Teuta Sahatqija is appointed the head of the Consulate General of the Republic of Kosovo in New York in summer 2016. The Consulate General beside consular issues covers diplomatic presence and cooperation with UN.

Until her appointment, Ambassador Sahatqija was a Member of Parliament since her first mandate in 2004. Most recently she served as the Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on European Integration. During her multiple mandates in Parliament, she has served as the Chair of the Parliamentary Caucus, Vice-Chair of the Parliamentary Caucus of Democratic League of Kosovo, President of Women Cross-Party Parliamentary Caucus, and First Vice-Chair of Parliamentary Committee on Economic Development, Member of Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Ms Sahatqija had very intensive political experience. In the period of 2010-2015 Ms. Sahatqija was Vice President of Democratic League of Kosovo. During the period 2008-2010, Ambassador was the President of the Reformist Party ORA up to the time of merging with Democratic League of Kosova. During 2010 she has been part of the cabinet and the Advisor to former President of the Republic of Kosovo, H.E. Fatmir Sejdiu.

Between 1998 and 1999 Mrs. Sahatqija worked in KVM-OSCE and UNMIK as Comms and IT Officer in Kosovo and Albania, while launching her own radio network communication business venture in 1999. From 1985-1998, she worked as a Maintenance Engineer and Software Programmer in a textile company Printeks, and continued as a Manager of the computer center at a food production company Ereniku, both in Kosovo.

Mrs Sahatqija is well known activist for women economic and political empowerment and her work was documented in many publications from international organization with whom she worked jointly. She is a founding member of KUSA -Kosovo US Alumni organization, RWL- Regional Woman Lobby for Peace and Security, Founder member of the inter regional women initiative for peace and reconciliation “Follow US”, “Week of Women” with NDI on women economic and political empowerment. Ambassador Sahatqija is well known about her initiative for women health and project of Mobile Mammography in Kosova. She worked in different gender projects with international organizations as UNWOMEN, NDI, UNDP, International Idea, Kwina til Kwina, OSCE, ODHIR, IKnowPolitics, KAS and many other. During her work in Parliament she was engaged in process of building the new and modern Constitution of Republic of Kosova, Gender Quota, women economic empowerment projects, many legislative initiatives, Resolution for women empowerment in Parliament, recommendation s of Parliament for political and economic empowerment of women, women access to properties and many other.

She was invited as speaker or consultant from International Idea in Ghana and Jordan in different conferences for gender empowerment, invited by NDI to Yemen to talk to women politicians about the ways how Constitution can help women empowerment, invited by KAS to international women’s Conference in Naypyidaw Myanmar, Invited by No Peace without Justice to Erbil, Iraq to women political conference, invited by US Congress and NDI and many other.

Mrs. Sahatqija holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering from the University of Pristina in Kosovo. In addition to that she also completed the Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program at Dartmouth College in the United States receiving a Graduate Certificate.

Ambassador Sahatqija is member of Rotary Keystone e-club D7280.

She speaks Albanian, English, Serbian, French, Turkish, and Italian.

Born in Prizren, she is married and has two daughters and two sons.
