HEATHER NICK

Planning and Economic Development for the City of Tyler

Ms. Nick is the managing director of Planning and Economic Development for the City of Tyler. She is an award-winning planner with more than 15 years of experience in municipal government. Heather is a certified planner and holds a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Texas at Tyler. She graduated from UT-Tyler summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in sociology. She also received two degrees from Tyler Junior College.

Currently, her leadership authority extends to the Planning Department, Historic Preservation, Tyler Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), Permit Center and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Department.

She was recently elected President-Elect of the American Planning Association (APA) Texas Chapter which holds the third largest membership in the association. She began her two-year term as President-Elect on November 8, 2019.
