I was born and raised primarily in South Texas ( San Antonio, Kingsville, Harlingen), but graduated from high school in Mineral Wells. I attended Weatherford College, The University of Texas at Austin (Hookem!), William Paterson University of New Jersey and U.T. Tyler. I have a BA in Communications and a BS in Criminal Justice.

I worked for the Tyler Police Department for 33 years and retired as a Sergeant in charge of Property Crimes investigations. I was also the commander of the TPD Crisis Negotiations Unit and am a past president of the Texas Association of Hostage Negotiators.

I married Emily Beall in 1994 and moved to J’ville and have been here ever since.

I was active in the Tyler community and since retirement have become fairly active in the Jacksonville community with membership on several local boards. I also do some part time community relations work for Southside Bank in J’ville and give tours of the Kiepersol Winery/Distillery, which I have been a part of since the beginning.
