Duties & Responsibilities of a Smith County Constable

Constable Wayne Allen was born and raised in Arlington, Texas before moving to the East Texas area to attend Harmony High School in Gilmer.  Wayne has been married to his wife Heather for 27 years, and they have three adult children: Dr. Emily Glaspie (Pharmacist), Alyssa Myers (Wedding Coordinator) and Andrew Allen (Fire Fighter). 

After college, Wayne began working for the Tyler Police Department in 1991.  Over his career he served in the patrol, recruiting and traffic divisions, including being assigned as senior motor officer for 20 years. Wayne was awarded the Medal of Valor in 2005 for his role in the Smith County Courthouse Shooting that occurred on February 24, 2005.  He was also awarded the Life Saving Award in 2018 for his actions after responding to a motor vehicle accident in the 1900 Block of the ESE Loop in Tyler.  After serving in many different areas, Wayne was assigned to the Financial Crimes Unit as a Detective.  In this role, he primarily conducted complex fraud investigations as a member of the United States Secret Service-East Texas Financial Crimes Task Force. He is also a certified by the US Secret Service as a forensic cell phone examiner. Wayne retired in 2019, having served as a Tyler police officer for almost 30 years, and accepting a role in corporate security with The Home Depot.  There he served as District Manager of AP and Safety for four years, overseeing nine stores and 2500 employees.  In November 2021, Wayne ran for Smith County Precinct #2 Constable and was elected to the role of Constable in November of 2022.  Wayne was reelected as Constable in November 2024 and serves in this role today.
