Yoga Warriors International
Roy – Veteran. Lucy has been a saint in tough times. Roy was at Fort Campbell and spent a year in Vietnam. He was a 2nd Lieutenant in the infantry in Panama for jungle training. He was in book publishing for 40 years. He is a survivor of brain cancer. Roy spoke about boredom and anticipatory anxiety in the military. His PTSD remains and yoga helps adjust his soul and how he responds to anxiety. When you have no outlets you revisit the events of the past. Yoga is a way to move through the anxiety. It provides the calm and prevents him from reacting spontaneously.
Ed – Yoga allows him to be steady and calm. Ed is a retired firefighter and State Fire Marshall. He was part of an Arson Investigation Unit and a Paramedic and every step of the way there has been stress. You are dealing with life situations 24/7 and it is difficult to get off that high. You suppress these experiences until you are volcano ready to erupt. You take this stress out on your loved ones and he found it difficult to intermingle socially.
Lucy – Has a Social Worker background. She spoke about the Sympathetic System; the fight or flight responses. Veterans are hyper-vigilant and PTS can be numbing. The Para-Sympathetic System allows the body to rest and digest. It is a place of safety and rest. Yoga Warrior International was created in 2005 and is evidenced-based. It asks you to listen to the affirmations and repeat them 3 times in order to change the neuro-pathways. It is subtle and activates the Pro-Preceptors and transforms the soul. It is a safe way to release stress and anger. It is the breath of joy and brings one back to center. It teaches you what your triggers are so you are mindful of them. Yoga increases sleep and it is great for First Responders.
Yoga Warriors International holds classes at Central Mass Wellness in West Boylston Thursday mornings at 11:00 AM.
