President Leslie introduced Lance Mason a Leominster EMT/Firefighter and a consultant for Autism Law Enforcement Educational Coalition (ALEC). He commented that the city of Leominster is the 1st to be autism friendly such as in businesses and restaurants. They are developing all to be aware as there is a 17% increase every year. The Leominster School department back in 2008 that there are 100+ students listed as autistic out of 6200 students. First responders are taking courses/trainings to help them deal with autism emergencies or situations that arise. Lance told a story about his son who has autism and the everyday struggles they deal with as a family. He gave an example of a local Leominster restaurant that he eats at frequently now because they dealt with a situation there with his son and patrons wanted Lance’s family to leave but he didn’t as the owners came over and rectified the situation and explained autism awareness to other patrons who were eating.  This is an educational learning piece that we all need to have a better handle on situations that do arise in our cities, schools and across the country. Lance has been active speaker in the state of Massachusetts. You cannot disrupt their lives because people don’t know the repercussions they endure as sometimes it will take an ½ hour or 1 hour to calm them down. Great info…thanks Lance!

Gino, our guest pulled ticket #998 and Karen Fusco was the lucky winner who got an “eight” for $8.00…Congrats!! The “Joker” is still in the last 4 cards….
