President Leslie introduced Chris Spear from Stowe who is a member of the Nashoba Valley club…thanks to his wife who encouraged him to join! The Nashoba Valley club is 4 years old this week and 11 years ago Rotary was formed with him! Chris showed us a slide presentation of his coast-to-coast journey from San Diego, CA to Savannah, GA which took them 28 days to complete after 2900 miles. They rode 107 miles day which they started on 9/13/15 and raised $9,000 towards Dana Farber Institute. This was the longest bike ride he has ever done and was very challenging at times. He had to at least have 2 breakfasts to start his day to burn the calories, then have lunch and they stopped for dinner and to rest. They burned at least 5,000-6,000 calories a day. He started biking 1989 and took part in the Pan Mass challenge which is a 2-day bike run and all proceeds go to the Dana Farber Institute. His custom bike cost him $6,000 but they do go up to $10,000. Very exciting pictures to view of his journey..
Meeting adjourned at 8:33 a.m.
