We had Joan Ficarra introduce Steve Mammone, Northwest School and Patty, Westminster School where we handed out dictionaries to all the 3rd graders. Patty asked, “When was the last time you used a dictionary?” With today’s technology you go online to look up a word but she has her kids keep the dictionaries at school which are part of the curriculum and used them throughout the year. Steve stated he has them bring the dictionaries home b’c some of the families do have internet. He stated he has been in the Leominster school system for 21 years and thanks Tony for some of those years helping him to where he is today. Steve commented that he just found his 2 dictionaries from his boys that were given when they were little as they are 14 and 18 years old now. He said 58% of the school has reduced lunches so you have an idea of the geographic they have. Both were very appreciative and we even showed them some of the “thank you” cards we have received from the other schools that the children have written to us.
