This week we celebrated Student Of The Month with a standing room only for this great event.  With the departure of President Morse, we had stand-in President and Heavy Construction Expert Gary Johns  leading the meeting.  Speaking of stand-ins, apparently Nancy Storm was not able to attend the meeting, so Chuck Snipes took over the MC duties for student of the month.  As usual, all the DJUSD secondary schools were present: Da Vinci, King, DSIS, and Davis High.

This reporter’s only comment on all the amazing students and wonderful teachers centers around the math teacher who fulfilled all the usual stereo types – short sleeve dress shirt, tie, pocket protector with pens and other things in the pocket.  Wonderful to see that some stereotypes of old are still true.

Moving on to more important business, there were a number of announcements. Meaghan Likes announced that Ribs and Rotary is coming up and that there are still opportunities for sponsorship.  When Meaghan bantered back and forth with Brodie Hamilton about it being Ribs and Rotary, for some reason Brodie thought Meaghan was saying “Grapes and Rotary.”

Vanessa Errecarte asked for help with the weekend's work project at Progress Ranch taking down the old fence. With the impending rain, Vanessa used her expert PR skills to spin the wet weather as an aid for making the ground soft, and thus easing the removal of the old fence.  Wonder how that worked out?

Mack Walker chimed in a little later about the same project – being the wily old Rotary President that he is, and despite the “Rotarians at Work” shirts – Mack smartly lined up the UC Davis Rugby Team to help with the fence demolition. Maybe the shirt should read “Smart Rotarians Supervise.”

Keith Watenpaugh announced that Trivia Night was a great success and raised more money than last year.  Recipients of this year’s proceeds are International House, ComuniCare, and Human Rights program.

Lori Raineri announced that there will be a One Book Club meeting on Sun May 6th.  The book is Red Mars by Stan Robinson.  Unclear if it was just the first book of the trilogy or all three.  Guess you’ll find out when you show up.  There will be adult beverages provided so it should be a good time.

Mack Walker incurred the wrath of the Sergeants for a good cause and had Wendi Counta provide a quick presentation on what Progress Ranch is, and the amazing work that the organization does in our community and the broader Northern California region.

Sergeants kicked things off with a sing-along. Oh joy. This reporter has heard better Gregorian Chants at funeral than what our club was able to muster. Hence the fines.

Happy Bucks was kicked off by Dick Berry, who was happy that he won at Trivia Night; must be that prefect attendance record.

Meaghan Likes was happy that Jim Smith discovered the wonderful world of computers and the internet and published the last Get Up and Go.  See, you can teach old dogs new tricks!

Tim Daleiden was happy about a trip to Palm Desert and reliving his parent/child relationship. Tim was so happy about that interaction with his parents, that he decided to revisit the same relationship with his kids while on the same trip.  Sounds like good times!

Mack Walker was fined $10 for taking up all the Sergeants time with the Progress Ranch update.

Finally, Tim Daleiden tried to claim the winning ticket for draw of the day, but when challenged on his tickets, turns out he didn’t have the wining number, but that Larry Olsen was the real winner.  Unfortunately, Larry’s luck left him at that point, and Larry will eat for free next week.
