Recognition of employees is important to the stability of our work place. Today there is a new technology which reduces the need for rudimentary tasks to be done by our work force. However there is still the need for leadership among our employees who can be trusted, in the absence of their employers to see that the job gets done well and on time. As Rotarians , we believe that a show of appreciation can go  a long way to keeping these valuable employees. What better way to demonstrate that appreciation than out "Pride of Workmanship Program"?

The Pride of Workmanship Program has its beginnings in Australia in June 1975. At a Rotary District 9680 Assembly, members proposed the theme, with the intent to encourage and foster a pride in personal work performance and ultimately to a national pride of workmanship, for the advantage and betterment of all Australia. To promote the theme in communities, The Rotary Club of Pennant Hills in New South Wales established the Pride of Workmanship Award.

A returning Rotary Exchange Student from Moravia, New York, who had been a guest of the Pennant Hills Rotary Club in 1988-89, brought back to the Rotary Club of Moravia an invitation to launch the Pride of Workmanship Award in the United States. The first Award Program was held May 1990 by the Rotary Club of Moravia.

During the club presidency of Harvey Kaufman the Vocational Service Committee was asked to visit the Moravia Club and obtain information for a program at Cortland.  Cortland's first Pride of Workmanship Award Dinner was held May 3, 1994 with Harley Albro and Sandy Gay as the first co-chairs. There were five outstanding candidates , each given a certificate of appreciation. 2020 marks out 26th annual celebration.
