Ridgewood Rotary Learns CPR-A

Rotary CPR 
District Governor Lenny Agrusti wears many hats. In addition to his work-a-day job and the added responsibilities keeping tabs on the 56 Rotary Clubs spread across three counties, Lenny has been a member of the New Jersey First Aid Council for 36 years, while maintaining various roles for the Wayne First Aid Squad and the American Heart Association. His volunteer efforts earned him the First Aider of the Year Award from the Wayne Squad in 2010 and he is a life member of the Tri-Boro First Aid Squad, reflecting community involvement spanning more than three decades.
 
 

This rich background was evident when Agrusti visited the Ridgewood Rotary Club on February 25 to conduct a brief course in CPR-A, Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation Anywhere. Elaborating on an American Heart Association instructional film, Agrusti led the members through the series of steps that maintain blood flow to the heart when heart function is interrupted. The procedure is indicated for adults or children and can turn a life-threatening situation into a happy outcome. The use of an Automated External Defibrillator or AED was also explained, along with various methods for assisting people choking or otherwise unable to breathe or speak. CPR-A quickly applied while awaiting the arrival of medically-trained personnel does really save lives, Agrusti assured the Rotarians.
