K-School Hit by Freak Wind/RainStorm

On April 2nd (2013) high winds and torrential rains struck K-school, stripping the roof off one block, containing classrooms for Grades 5-8.  In addition, several of the interior walls showed major cracks due to the stress caused by the roof girders being twisted and blown away.  Fortunately, there were no casualties since routinely the school is in recess for the month of April.

It is not clear who is responsible for repairing or rehabilitating the building.  Under the new National Constitution which came into effect on January 1, a new County legislative structure was introduced providing a new chief executive or Governor and an elected Legislature.  Mr. Henry Siololo,  former K-School teacher, is now a member of the Legislature, and he has assured his support for rebuilding the classrooms when the Legislature becomes a reality in June. However, the Parents' Council has already met and determined that each family will be assessed a portion of the anticipated funds necessary to repair the damages.

Ridgewood Rotary has asked a professional engineer from nearby Narok, the County-seat, to visit the school and to assess the damages and recommend a remedy to get the classrooms up and running as quickly as possible.  Once his report is received, Ridgewood Rotary  Kenya School Committee will meet to determine its course of action.
