CLUB ANNOUNCEMENTS:
R.I has designated May 20th as Day of Service for eight districts. The Paterson Rotary Club will participate by doing a site clean-up or planting a garden. Our Interact students will also participate. The R.I. theme for this event is “Get Behind The Wheel” (Rotary wheel) Tee Shirts with this logo are planned.
We need people to volunteer to take videos and photos for the press.
Karen Fischer was presented with a gift for hosting our Gift of Life child and his mom.
A special thank you also to Jonathan and Candy Sang, PDG John G. Susani and his wife Dale, Claudia Albano, Erika Baldino & family and Betsy Reid for assisting Karen while Alejandro and his mom were here. Alejandro was cleared to go back to Honduras after two surgeries to repair two holes in his heart. Thank God for Rotary and for our Gift of Life program that saved another child’s life.
Our next Rotary lunch meeting will take place on May 25, 2023 at The Brownstone - Bernie Kerik will be presenting.

This Meeting's Speaker: Erica Fischer Kaslander
Our guest speaker today is Erica Fischer Kaslander, Executive Director of C.A.S.A. a non-profit children’s advocacy organization.
C.A.S.A. provides a voice for children in the foster care system and empowers volunteer advocates to champion the best interests of children who have been abused or neglected and placed into the foster care system.
These advocates focus on the best interests of each child and advocate for those interests throughout the legal and child welfare process. Advocates commit to serve a child until he or she has a safe, permanent, and loving home.
C.A.S.A. volunteers do not need any special skills to be a C.A.S.A. volunteer. Volunteers need the desire to help a child, be at least 21 years of age, and have a valid New Jersey driver’s license, a clear background check, basic computer skills, and the ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Information sessions are held several times a month.
The training curriculum will guide individuals through the role of the volunteer, the child welfare system, the needs and development of children, trauma, mental health, professional communication, cultural competence, and educational needs.
After 36 hours of training is complete and all paperwork is completed and cleared, the volunteer is sworn in as an official court appointed special advocate and will be appointed their first case.
