On February 25, 1913 a group of 35 businessmen held their first Rotary meeting at Crawford’s Restaurant opposite City Hall on Washington Street in Paterson, New Jersey.

Paterson Rotary’s first president, William D. Plumb  knew that Paterson Rotary, like the city of Paterson, had a lot to offer to the world, so in 1914, the Club invited all Rotarians from around the globe to the Silk City with a full page ad in the Rotarian magazine. It was Paterson Rotary’s introduction to the world.

In 1915 under the leadership of our second club president Edward Sceery, the members and 400 guests were privileged to listen to the first transcontinental telephone conversation from New York to San Francisco. He was the founder of the Paterson Rotary Youth Scholarship Loan Fund. The first recipient of the Student Scholarship Loan was Vic Desmet who borrowed $250 to complete his education at Harvard Medical School. Vic later joined Paterson Rotary Club in 1935. President Sceery was a leading florist and was one of the founders of the Florist Transworld Delivery. (FTD)
