CLUB ANNOUNCEMENTS:
R.I has designated May 20th as Day of Service for eight districts. The Paterson Rotary Club will participate by doing a site clean-up or planting a garden. Our Interact students will also participate. The R.I. theme for this event is “Get Behind The Wheel” (Rotary wheel) Tee Shirts with this logo are planned.
We need people to volunteer to take videos and photos for the press.
Our Gift of Life child is here with his mom. They will be hosted by Karen Fischer. Alejandor’s surgery was done on Tuesday in Long Island and went well. John Susani, Jonathan Sang and Claudia (interpreter from John Susani’s office) Karen will need some help with food, rides to doctor appointments etc. so ALL members are expected to help out in some way.
Our next Rotary lunch meeting will take place on May 11, 2023 at The Brownstone Please join us for another great program. Our guest speaker will be Erica Fischer Kaslander, Executive Director of C.A.S.A.
PDG Art Scialla, Sr. gave short eulogies for recently deceased members. Joseph Hessler who served two terms as our president passed away on April 18th and former Passaic County Sheriff Edward Engelhardt, also a past member of our club. Rest In Peace.

This Meeting's Speaker: Nancy Kontos
Our guest speaker today is Nancy Kontos, CFO of Kontos Foods in Paterson, New Jersey. Nancy is also Chair of the Chair of the St. Joseph’s Foundation. She is a CPA and worked in that capacity for 20 years prior to joining her husband’s company.
She is joined by her husband Steve, President and C.E.O. of Kontos Foods.Kontos Foods was established in Paterson in 1987 and employs 350 people, most of whom are from Paterson.
They own three facilities in Paterson which produce their famous Pita bread and Filo dough.
Their sixteen trucks deliver to the Northeast. Large carriers distribute to the rest of the country, as well as other countries.
She credits their success during the COVID 19 pandemic to loyal employees who always showed up for work during that difficult time.
Steve gave us insight into how the supply chain crisis affected getting goods and materials as well as prices of goods due to inflation. He doesn’t see that ending soon.
Kontos products are sold in most supermarkets and specialty stores

The Paterson Rotary Cookbooks are here! Pick one or more up for you and for gifts in time for cooking, baking, and gift giving for Christmas and the Holidays! The books are $15.00 each and feature 291 recipes! They are at PDG John Susani’s office and ready for pick up.
A Tricky Tray and Beefsteak Dinner is planned for May 3, 2023 and will take place at Portabello’s in Oakland, NJ. This fundraiser will honor PDG Joseph Dino. All members are asked to solicit donations of gift cards from restaurants and retailers you visit, as well as gift baskets, and gifts. Prizes include five vacations in Antigua and the Lottery Apron
Tickets are $65.00 per person and include one sheet of raffle tickets.
Your ticket includes: Antipasta, pasta, beefsteak, dessert and one sheet of Green, entry level tickets.
