MILFORD MA ROTARY CARES ABOUT OUR LOCAL YOUTH

Scholarships

Each year our Milford, MA Rotary Club awards (4) $1,500 college scholarships to seniors from the surrounding towns of Milford, Hopedale, and Upton, MA. The application process opens in January, continuing with an extensive review of each application and includes in-person interviews of each qualified applicant. We remain extremely impressed by the breadth of applicants who take the time to apply for our scholarship program and wish we could give more to these outstanding students.

The application may be found here (part 1) and here (part 2).

RYLA

("Rotary Youth Leadership Awards")

We believe in the power of our motivated youth and so does Rotary International. Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is an intensive leadership experience organized by Rotary clubs and districts where you develop your skills as a leader while having fun and making connections.

At a RYLA event, students will:

Connect with leaders in the community and around the world to:
  • Build communication and problem-solving skills
  • Discover strategies for becoming a dynamic leader in your school or community
  • Learn from community leaders, inspirational speakers, and peer mentors
  • Unlock your potential to turn motivation into action
  • Have fun and form lasting friendships

Our club is proud to sponsor 3 students each year to attend our local 3-day RYLA event, which takes place in early summer (although applications and interviews happen much earlier in the year) in Fitchburg, MA.

ESSEX Exchange Program

For the past 2 years, the Rotary Club of Milford has sponsored an incoming exchange student! For the 2016-2017 school year, we hosted Caroline from Germany and for the 2017-2018, we are currently hosting Auriene from France. Both women are remarkable and adjusted to life in Hopedale exceptionally. They've come in with CAN-DO attitudes and picked up schooling and friendships with ease.

During the 2016-2017 school year, we also sponsored an outgoing student, Cassidy (also from Hopedale) who wanted to spend her senior year in Thailand. We supported her as we read her informative blog posts about the challenges she encountered (and overcame with grace) during her year abroad. There's no doubt Cassidy's life was changed forever by her experience with her Rotary exchange year.

We are excited and happy to host students who wish to both visit another country and visit our own. For more information on the exchange program, please visit the Essex Exchange Program website at http://www.exchangestudent.org/!

Swim Program

The Rotary Club of Milford has sponsored a youth swimming program for over 50 years! It's held for 2 weeks in mid-July each year at the Fino Field pool and taught by certified Red Cross lifeguards. The cost is $25 per child for the entire 2 weeks (or $60 per family for those with 3 or more children in the program). We believe that teaching young children how to swim is fundamental learning. This program is a highlight of our year.

Swim program sign-ups happen the last 2 weekends of June at Fino Field and also at Outdoor Day. The sign-up form can be found on the homepage of our website as the date approaches.

Interact Club

We've been honored to support a local Rotary Interact club here in Milford for the past 3 years. The Interact club is currently in a transition phase but if you're interested in the Interact experience, please feel free to reach out to us any time or check out the Interact webpage on the Rotary International website.
