Julia Demers, our Rotary Exchange Student from Milford to Toulouse, France sent along a great and exciting update that Jane read to the club today. Great report- definitely worth reading to see how Rotarians take care of their Exchange Students in every country. Thanks Jane for sharing the update with us today. It turned a rainy day into a sunny day.. Here's the letter: Hi Jane! It has been awhile since I have talked to anyone from Milford Rotary (but
don't worry I read the ebulletins every month in order to keep up!) I was planning on sending you a power point I made of all the things I've visited here in France, but since my computrer broke the file was lost. But Ill tell you about some of my amazing experiences so far anyways. As you may know exchange students have three host families. Since my families are either in Toulouse or extremely close, I go to High School right in the center of Toulouse (France's 5th biggest city). I'm the only exchange student at my school, but there are three main public high schools in Toulouse and there are a lot of Rotary exchange students at the other two schools. I am having such an amazing time! I have made incredible friends, a lot of French people but also a ton of exchange students. It's incredible because I literally have friends from around the world; Mexico, Canada, Russia, Taiwan, Korea, Germany, etc. My trip has also been amazing, not only because I have made amazing friends, but also because I have done a lot of traveling. I have landed in great host families, who all had me do some traveling. I've been to Nantes (a city in Brittany), Sette (A city on the edge of the medeterranian), Lille, skiing in the Pyranees, visiting wine vinyards, and so much more. During the March vacation I went to Barcelona and Paris with Rotary and now in just a couple of days I'll be leaving for my Eurotour Bus Trip!A trip organized by Rotary where I'll be going to Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Itlaly and Monaco with about 50 other students and I just can't wait!! Otherwise, as you may know I graduated High School last year, and so this year I had to apply to college. I originally planned to take this gap year because of course I wanted to travel and learn a new culture, but also because I thought I wanted to go to University of Montreal (where I would learn in French). While doing applications however I liked the idea of again discovering a new country, so I decided that I was going to apply to Universities in the UK. I wasn't really expecting to end up in the UK since it was all a little last minute; but a couple of months ago, I was accepted to The University of Saint Andrews in Scotland. I finally decided that is where I will be going. I will study Physics (and learn golf). It's incredible how fast this year has gone by. I come home June 3rd and I cannot wait to thank every one from Rotary and tell them about my Trip! Hope everything is going well in Milford. Let them know how I am doing, and let them know that I am so grateful! Thank you for everything! Julia Demers Rotary Exchange Student from Milford to Toulouse, France
