Gift of Life Child Justin Acosta - Day 10

Back for More Tests

Friday, October 24, 2008

I was up by 6:30 today, as we had to get up early. Justin had to be at MontefioreHospital for a ten o'clock appointment. Justin and mom were up at seven.

Thank God we did leave early. It took over an hour just to get over the George Washington Bridge . There was an accident at 230th Street on the Major Deegan Expressway, three blocks from our exit at 233rd Street. Thanks to a couple of Fort Lee policemen, after I told them I had to get to MontefioreHospital, they let me jump some lanes. Once we got to the Deegan, it was clear sailing. We arrived with a half hour to spare, but then delayed for about twenty minutes. There was some testing going on in one of the rooms Justin was to be examined in. Justin was sedated about twenty after ten. He was out like a light in fifteen minutes.

The technician worked on Justin for about fifty minutes, and when she  finished, another technician spent twenty minutes more on him. They got some real good pictures and Justin never moved. We left the hospital. The ride home was easy, no traffic going to New Jersey; however, you should have seen the Deegan going north. We were hungry by the time we arrived in Fort Lee. Justin had to fast from midnight until they were through with the sonogram. Dolce could not eat or drink, because if Justin saw her eating it would have been all over. I had to think fast. What should I prepare for them? It came to me out of the blue, one of my favorites. "La Meadowlands Diner"! It was an instant hit. Dolce and Justin shared a chicken melt on rye and chicken soup - my recommendation; and I had one of my specialties, a Greek platter - the best at Meadowlands. Nothing bothers this kid when it comes to eating. He tasted everything. The nurse said he might throw-up later from the sedative.  Not this guy.

Now for the good news.  Justin will be operated this coming Wednesday, the 29th at 7AM. He has to be at the hospital by 5:30AM. In the meantime he will have another opportunity to savor Sally's cooking before the operation. Remember if he makes three meetings he is eligible for membership.

When I arrived home I turned on my cell, only to find a message from the hospital.  Dr Weinstein who will do the operation, had his nurse call to say that Justin needs blood work and X-rays, and asked if we could return today. I told them about the traffic; so they said Monday at noon would be fine. He does not have to fast again, Thank God.

By the way, I made lunch, but Dolce prepared the eggs, chopped up bacon, and spaghetti with chopped up chicken for supper.

Tomorrow is Saturday - "come on down"!
