The Rotary Club of Fair Lawn has been active in our Fair Lawn community since 1948.  You’ve seen our signs announcing the time, date and location of our weekly meetings; you’ve seen the Rotary logo all over town – the new clock in front of the library, the old bulletin board in front of the high school; on the “adopt a park” sign at Beaver Dam Park; and inlaid in pavers are Memorial Park as well as other places locally, regionally and internationally.

So who are these men and women that volunteer their time to serve those in our community?  Who are these people that travel around the world to fight polio and drive across town to help their neighbors in need?  Well, our new feature will introduce Fair Lawn Rotarians each month.

Our first member to be “Spotlighted” is Stu Herrmann, our current Club President.  This is Stu’s second time in the command chair; he served as Club President in the 2000/2001 Rotary Year.  During his first stint as Club President, Stu initiated Project R.E.A.L. (Rotary Encourages Academic Learning), a project to provide those Fair Lawn elementary students in need with the tools to maintain their education.

Stu lives and works here in Fair Lawn as a Financial Planner; his office is located at 32-16 Broadway.  Stu has been in his field of work for 34 years and has been a Rotarian since 1989.  Stu’s 3 Reasons for joining Rotary: 1) To give back to the town I grew up in; 2) Was asked; 3) To help others and teach my daughter about giving back.  Stu’s Favorite Rotary Activities: 1) Annual Beefsteak & Tricky Tray; 2) Project REAL; 3) Memorial Day Parade; 4) Pancake Breakfast; and 5) Pedals for Progress.

Rotary is a big part of each member’s life, but we do have lives outside of Rotary; Stu’s Interests Outside of Rotary are: Family Genealogy; Poker; and Relaxing Down the Shore. Stu’s IPOD apparently has music from the 50s, 60s and 70s and he prefers a PC to Mac as well as e-mail to snail mail.  What we in the Club found interesting is that he hasn’t caved into the Apple IPhone crowd or even the Android party, his smart phone is still a trusty Palm based phone.
