The Rotary Club of Fair Lawn has been active in our Fair Lawn community since 1948. You’ve seen our signs announcing the time, date and location of our weekly meetings; you’ve seen the Rotary logo all over town – the new clock in front of the library, the bulletin board in front of the School District Offices; on the “adopt a park” sign at Beaver Dam Park; and inlaid in pavers are Memorial Park and the Arboretum sign on Fair Lawn Avenue as well as other places locally, regionally and internationally.

So who are these men and women that volunteer their time to serve those in our community? Who are these people that travel around the world to fight polio and drive across town to help their neighbors in need?

Our twelfth ninth installment of this continuing series brings us to Dr. Robert Kahn, an optometric Physician whom resides and works right here in Fair Lawn with his family.  Rob’s office is located on Fair Lawn Avenue in the Radburn area of town.  Rob has been treating patients for over thirty years and has also been a Fair Lawn Rotarian for just as long.  Rob joined Rotary as a way to volunteer his time for the betterment of our community; he also found it as a good vehicle to meet people and for business networking.

Throughout his tenure in the Club, Rob has served in every position in the Club, at least once; he served as Club President in 1990 and once again in 2008.  Rob enjoys his time as a Fair Lawn Rotarian, his favorite activities are talking with fellow Rotarians, taking part in hands-on projects and he is especially proud to have had his kids grow up with Rotary.  Rob has also been the driving force for our Club’s 4th Grade Spelling Bee Championships; he is our point person in organizing this annual literacy event.  Rob also serves on the Fair Lawn Library Board and has used that position to strengthen the ties between the Library and our Club.

Outside of Rotary, Rob’s interests include wood working, biking and the theatre/symphony.  Rob is also known for traveling to wonderful places to explore and enjoy with his family.  Despite him being known for carrying around a “dinosaur” phone, Rob does have an iPod which appears to be loaded with a variety of musical tastes from Springsteen, to Sade, to Broadway show tunes.
