The Rotary Club of Fair Lawn has been active in our Fair Lawn community since 1948. You’ve seen our signs announcing the time, date and location of our weekly meetings; you’ve seen the Rotary logo all over town – the new clock in front of the library, the bulletin board in front of the board of education offices; on the “adopt a park” sign at Beaver Dam Park; and inlaid in pavers at Memorial Park as well as other places locally, regionally and internationally.

So who are these men and women that volunteer their time to serve those in our community? Who are these people that travel around the world to fight polio and drive across town to help their neighbors in need?

Our sixth installment of this continuing series brings us to Charlie Wrubel a member of the Fair Lawn Rotary Club since 1967 and is currently our Rotary International Foundation Chairman.  Charlie also served the Club as President in the 2003/04 Rotary Year and is on the nominating committee (new members and Club officers).  Charlie has been in the newspaper business for 25 years, currently he is the principal of Wrubel Communications, a newspaper consultant and broker located at 12-32 River Road, Fair Lawn. Charlie joined Rotary for the important community service role it plays in our local and international communities; he also enjoys the camaraderie that comes from being a Rotarian and learning more about the world and other items of interest from other Club members.  His favorite Rotary activities are our weekly lunch meetings, the annual pancake breakfast and our growing 4th Grade Spelling Bee Championships.  Outside of Rotary, he enjoys singing in a cabaret, swimming, traveling, reading and gardening.

When it comes to electronics, Charlie is all Apple, preferring Mac and IPhone over PC and Android platforms.  His IPod favorites are The Beatles (I Want to Hold Your Hand), The Beach Boys (California Girl) and The Platters (The Great Pretender).  Charlie can be contacted via e-mail at chasnews@aol.com.
