Make a Difference in the World, Become a Rotarian
News from around the world as well as around the country comes to us faster and faster; through 24 hour cable news networks, special investigative reports and the internet. As we see how people live in different parts of our country as well as around the world more and more people want to find ways to help those that need the help the most. One person can make a difference in the world we live in; however one person that is part of a group of like minded individuals will create a larger impact in the world, helping a greater number of people in a smaller amount of time.
Rotary International is comprised of 33,000 Clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas throughout the world. There are over 1.2 million Rotarians that form a global network of business, professional and community leaders that volunteer their time and talents to make the world we live in a better place for humanity. Rotarians work together to bring clean water and sanitation facilities to improve the health of people; Rotarians work hard to erect and maintain schools to educate children and adults; Rotarians teach skills in order to allow for people to become self sufficient; Rotarians have come together to create "disaster kits" that can be deployed around the world to help victims of natural disasters; Rotarians use their medical skills to help those needing medical assistance; Rotarians provide opportunities to allow other to better understand the world we live in; Rotarians have teamed up with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to eliminate polio; Rotarians travel the world to increase their understanding of what they have seen and heard in the news.
Locally, Rotarians make a difference in our community on a regular basis. The Rotary Club of Fair Lawn has provided seed money to allow the Fair Lawn Health Department to acquire the shingles vaccine to be distributed to seniors in need; Fair Lawn Rotarians work with Fair Lawn Boy Scouts to collect food for local food pantries; Fair Lawn Rotarians help educate our children by distributing dictionaries to all third graders in Fair Lawn and by providing essential school supplies to those that need help the most; Fair Lawn Rotarians work with the Fair Lawn Police Department to create Kid Care Identification Kits for parents to use in the event of an emergency; Fair Lawn Rotarians help support the Summer Concerts in the Park Series at Memorial Park; Fair Lawn Rotarians team up with the FLPD and local ice cream vendors to encourage the use of bicycle helmets by children through the Hooray for Helmets campaign; Fair Lawn Rotarians have donated the chess tables, benches and a swing at Rotary Grove located at Memorial Park and Pool.
Rotary's motto is "Service Above Self"; if you are looking for a way to help others, please do not hesitate to speak with a Fair Lawn Rotarian to learn more about how you can give back to the local and world communities as a Rotarian.
