On February 23, 2010 Rotary International will celebrate its 105th Anniversary.  What does that mean?  It shows that after over 100 years of service to the world community, Rotary International is still a significant force throughout the world to help others wherever and whenever help is needed on a variety of fronts.

Throughout it's history Rotary International has been recognized as a premier humanitarian service provider as it always creates a local network of leading citizens, creating a local Rotary Club consisting of local persons that fully understand the needs of their hometown.  Planning and implementation is done locally so those that understand their needs best can direct assistance where it is needed most.  Water and proper sanitation projects are brought to those that need it most; schools are erected to help educate children and adults so they may create a better life for themselves and their families; ways of combating diseases are taught to those effected most; skills training is made available so persons can become more self reliant.  The list of activities that Rotary International, and the individual Rotarians that make up this service organization, coordinates is a long list that continues to grow as we learn more about the world around us.

The ability of Rotary to help others has become very relevant recently with the Haitian earthquake.  Rotarians from Rotary International's District 7490 were in Haiti working with a local Rotary Club when the quake struck.  Due to Rotary's local service, in place network and reputation, Rotarians were able to react quickly to provide immediate assistance and coordinate relief efforts to those affected and will be there in the long term to assist the rebuilding efforts.

On its 105th Anniversary, Rotary International will celebrate this date and mark World Understanding and Peace Day.  Rotary will continue its mission of working for peace through our humanitarian work.  Rotarians understand that the causes of war and strife are often the same: poverty, inequity, deprivation, and a lack of hope.
