Liz Twiggs, Director of the Fair Lawn Human Services Department, visited the Rotary Club of Fair Lawn to give an update on the needs of the community food bank that is housed in the Fair Lawn Municipal Building.  Liz has been working with the Fair Lawn Food Pantry for the past 5 years; during the ensuing years, she estimates that the pantry has filled 3,000 bags of food to those needing help right here in Fair Lawn - in 2013 70 families were receiving assistance from the FL Food Pantry.

Fair Lawn is one of the few local municipalities that offers this much needed service; the pantry also assists those affected by fire and has provided assistance to those impacted by Super Storm Sandy.  Recently, the food pantry received donations to renovate the area when food and sundry items are stored in the basement of the municipality building; new shelving was installed to better organize the facility and there were repairs to the walls, ceiling, floor and windows.

This important service in our community is sustained by private donations and volunteers that help in the preparation of the bags of food for the clients of the pantry.  When possible, the food pantry will also assist in emergency payment of utility bills.  The Human Services Department also provides assistance by providing backpacks filled with school supplies, and runs a special Holiday Gift Drive.

The pantry is always in need of donations of food and sundry items, please visit the Fair Lawn municipal website at www.fairlawn.org or call the Fair Lawn Human Services Department at 201.794.5333 for more information on donations and volunteering.  The Fair Lawn Department of Human Services is located in Room 112 of the Fair Lawn Municipal Building, 8-01 Fair Lawn Avenue, Fair Lawn, NJ 07410.
