At our July 21st meeting, our members welcomed Liz Maresca and Marcy Kissane of the Fair Lawn Food Pantry (FLFP). Liz introduce Marcy as the new person taking over the role of Food Pantry coordinator and gave our members an update on what's been happening for the past two years.
During the height of the Covid Pandemic, the pantry was serving up to 60 families a week, which was up from the pre-pandemic levels of 15 family per week. At this waning stage of the pandemic, and with the on-set of the current inflation crisis, the Fair Lawn Food Pantry is serving between 30 and 40 families per week.
The pantry has been grateful for the support of the many organizations and individuals in the Fair Lawn community that have allowed this pantry to continue its operations at such a high service level. Without donations of food, gift cards, and cash the Fair Lawn Food Pantry would not be able to serve the families it does. It has been noted that there is a shift in families being served to an increasing number of senior citizens requiring the services of the pantry.
Fair Lawn Rotary fully supports the Fair Lawn Food Pantry, at the beginning of the pandemic, Fair Lawn Rotarians immediately donated $2,000 to assist the pantry in obtaining the items necessary to support their mission to help families in crisis. Throughout the years our Club has provided donations of cash, gift cards, and organizing food drives.
At this time the pantry is in need on non-food items; paper goods, personal care items, cleaning supplies, and other similar items.
