The last meeting of the 2012/2013 Rotary Year was a busy one for The Rotary Club of Fair Lawn.  President Stu Herrmann presided over a special Rotary Meet & Greet Event open to those that are interested in giving back to the local, national and global community.  Club members Jeff Simon and Michael Agosta coordinated this special event.  A large part of what made this event special was the attendance of our Rotary Scholarship recipients and RYLA attendees.

For several years, Fair Lawn Rotary has presented two athletic awards and $6,000 in scholarships to deserving Fair Lawn High School Seniors.  Rotary is one, if not the largest, scholarship provider to the young adults continuing their education.  On June 27th, Fair Lawn Rotarians, and our special guests, were able to meet this year’s scholarship recipients; Kevin Osback, Jessica Smith, Jack Anderson and Katarina Greco.  Each beneficiary introduced themselves and gave a brief overview of their upcoming plans.

Also in attendance at this meeting were two of four FLHS Juniors that the Club sponsored to attend the RYLA program in Honesdale, PA.  RYLA, Rotary Youth Leadership Award is a week-long training camp where participants learn about leadership; this program assists them in expanding their knowledge and skills so they come back to FLHS and become leaders in their senior year and beyond.

The June Meet and Greet Luncheon was a great spotlight to those in attendance to learn about what Rotary means in Fair Lawn.   The Meet and Greet is by no means the only time to learn about Rotary, we encourage anyone interested in helping those around the corner and across the globe to attend one of our meetings as a guest.  The Rotary Club of Fair Lawn is part of Rotary International, the world’s oldest global humanitarian service organization comprised of 1.2 million people in over 34 thousands Clubs around the world.  The Rotary Club of Fair Lawn meets Thursdays, 12:15 PM at the Fair Lawn Athletic Club, Parmelee Ave., Fair Lawn.  For more information contact Todd N.
